Dragontongue is an exolang, a personal language, and a fictional language.

Description

Dragontongue is, unsurprisingly, a language for dragons (more specifically, the dragons that inhabit the conworlds of Thirrtos and Ikutinos, and the Dragon Elves in Ikutinos that live alongside the dragons).

In Thirrtos, Dragons and English-speaking humans have lived alongside each other for a long time, and the number of human Dragontongue-speakers has gradually changed Dragontongue into having similar grammar and syntax as English. Ancient Dragontongue was different, but very few Ancient Dragontongue speakers remain in Thirrtos.

In Ikutinos, by sheer coincidence, the dragons speak almost exactly the same language as the modern Thirrtos dragons, but with a different accent. For some strange reason, Dragontongue and Ioslaonë Elvish have managed to stay almost completely unaffected by each other, despite the Dragon Elvish community using the two languages almost interchangeably.

Language Sources

Consciously, English, French, and “whatever sounds right”. Subconsciously, Welsh and Paolini’s Ancient Language. I didn’t have either of these in mind when writing the language, but looking back, I can see that they have both influenced Dragontongue quite a lot.

Interest of Others

Unlikely.
