Uniqueness/ Unicitat

It is the official language of the Republic of Gabilonia, a micro-nation created by myself in 1993. It is used as a cultural factor that shapes and strenghtens the country's national identity.

Design principles/ Principios

At first, Gabilonian was nothing more than a collection of distorted words taken from Romanian to seem more "English". The language had its own grammar too, right from the beggining but it is influenced by French and English. The words refined over the years and newer ones appeared. The language was forgotten for a while (between 1997 and 2002) but starting with 2002 there was a new movement to recover and improve the old language. Presently, the language is regulated by the Gabilonian Language Institute which strives for the language's development and continued usage.

Language sources/ Bases lingual

Most of the words are invented (about 60%) while many words also come from English, French, Romanian, distorted to fit the author's liking.

Interest of others/ Interesse pro oltres

Three people I know in real life have learned some words in Gabilonian, and there may be a few more over the internet to whom I might have mentioned Gabilonian. Currently, there are no speakers other than myself.
