Hebrew is a natlang belonging to the Semitic language family and spoken in the ancient Land of Israel. Although Hebrew ceased to be a vernacular in Hellenistic times it was preserved as the liturgical language of Judaism and was revived as the language of the modern State of Israel in the 20th century.
