Ill Bethisad

From Langmaker

Description

Ill Bethisad is a shared project consisting of conlanging, conculturing and alt-history. Its basis is the fictional language of Brithenig and its fictional nation of Kemr. Both were invented by famous conlanger Andrew Smith of New Zealand in 1997 or so. His interest was in the reconstruction of a hypothetical British Romance language, based upon the premise that the culture and language of the Romans had been able to withstand the invasions of the Saxons (et al.). The result is Brithenig, a Romance language that is something akin to French, but its sound system and historical sound changes are more reflective of Welsh.

Ill Bethisad's most famous conlangs are Brithenig and Wenedyk -- or infamous if you pay attention to the calls for deletion over on Wikipedia! Other conlangs include Montreiano, Arvorec and Reformed Lithuanian. Most of the present work on the project is historical and cultural in nature.
