Socialese is a constructed language designed by Eddy Ohlms, intended to combine the intellectual rigor of an engelang with the æsthetic qualities of an artlang. Although not technically a philosophical language as the term is generally understood, a strong philosophical undercurrent pervades the language.
A script for Socialese is in the works, as well, though it will not be ready for some time. However, it will build off of previous experiments by Eddy Ohlms, making it a non-linear, featural, dynamic script. The script is intended to maximize calligraphic freedom in writing, thus contributing further to Socialese's design philosophy as an individualistic language.
Design Principles
Ohlms started the project initially as a response to the many languages where he felt sexism and hierarchy were ingrained in the lexicon and grammar. Later, as his views evolved, he expanded the Socialese project into an experiment in incorporating existentialist, anarchist, and even surrealist ideas into the grammar and lexicon.
Usage
Currently, the language is a stand-alone project, though it may be incorporated into his conworld, the Terraverse. Other uses for it may also include in journals or calligraphic artwork.
Influences
Major influences include the Native American languages, especially Mohawk and Cheyenne (for most of the grammatical elements), as well as Italian, Greek, and Japanese (in terms of the phonology).
