Language sources
The occasional word (but with different meaning) and the occasional meaning come from countless languages. Syntax is inspired mostly by Turkish, Basque, Akan and Inuit; the scripts by Hebrew, Tibetan, Mongolian and Katakana; the phonology is all home-brew.
Design principles
Interesting phenomena from natlangs are cherry-picked while always attempting to remain different from Indo-European. A word-design technique is to pick a meaning, find the words for that meaning in several different languages and remove the sounds used in those words from the pool of possible sounds for that word. This leads to often running out of vowels, however, but since /ɑ/ is the most frequent vowel that can be used as a fall-back.
