Language sources
Many New English words are based on existing English words or are adapted from English source languages (Old English, French, Latin, etc.) in ways analogous to "real" English words.
[edit]
Design principles
The words are meant to be constructed in similar ways to regular English words, and so are given detailed etymologies, as if they were actually in The American Heritage English Dictionary.

Interest of others
As of 7/1/2003, over 112 other people had contributed words to New English. My contribution had dropped from 100% of the lexicon to 16% of the lexicon in just 15 months. Cool! As of 3/22/04, 320 other people had contributed words, dropping my contribution to 12% of the lexicon.
